2 Years Already?
To those that follow this blog...Elder Devin Hammer will return home from his mission January 27. Six days later,on February 2, his older brother, Justin, will be married for time and all eternity in the Provo temple. We are excited for both of these wonderful events. They are the beginning of a very full, fun and amazing year! Here's wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and the BEST new year yet!

So this week was alright again. Nothing super great h h h happened. Oh wait! Just kidding. H H H Haha. Sophan, our cambodian investigator, has a baptismal date now! Woot woot! January 1, 2012. oh yeah. Who's excited? I'm excited. What a great way to start the year, eh? That'll be two years in a row where we have a baptism on January 1. She's so solid too. She feeds us every time we go over, and she wants to learn as much as she can. It's great. At our appointment this last week, we asked her about how she is enjoying church and everything. The talks last week were about fasting, so I had to explain that to her, but she understood it pretty well. Then I asked her if we could just read the Book of Mormon for our lesson. She said yes, and she wanted to read in Cambodian because she would understand it better. So, I read all of 2 Nephi 31 to her, since neither Don or Elder Pierson can read Cambodian, and Sophan can't read until she gets her glasses this week. I explained what was happening during the chapter, and she was so absorbed in it as I read. As soon as I finished reading, I asked her what she thought. She said "I am so excited to get my glasses so I can read that book!" Yeah, it was pretty awesome. I then explained (in english so my comp knew what I was doing) about baptism, and invited her to be baptized. She said "no" pretty emphatically, so I was a bit confused. I then explained it again and inveited her to be baptized in cambodian, and she said yes. haha. It was a pretty unusual way of inviting her though. All I said was "You want to be part of our church, right?"
"Yes"
"Well, you need to be baptized then"
"Yes, I want to do that"
"Ok. How does January 1 sound?"
"Great!"
She's so cool. She was the first one to invite us over for Christmas, and she's going to cook my favorite cambodian food before I go home. haha. She's the best.
So that's about the coolest thing that happened this week.
The devotional lastnight was great too. Tabatha invited us over to watch it at her house. She made us dinner too. It was pretty darn good. Tabatha's so awesome. She might move to Utah someday, so if she does, that would be cool. Then you could all meet her and know how cool she is too. I decided that "The First Noel" is my favorite Motab song. It gives me the chills every time I hear it. I love it! The talks were great too. I loved President Uchtdorf's story of when he almost burnt down his house. hahaha. I can't wait until I'm old and have lots of good stories to tell people too. And I think it's awesome that they have 50+ new videos about Christ on lds.org. That's so cool!
Well, that is about it for this week, I believe. Next week is transfers so I'll be emailing on wednesday. Can you believe I'm going into my last transfer??? Crazy. Definitely doesn't feel like it. Anywho, I love you all, and hope you have an awesome week! B B B B B B Byebye!

Well, this week you don't get much of an email because I had to spend most of my time finishing up my BYU application. It's all done, so that's good news. This week turned out good. Thanksgiving was interesting, but respecting the privacy of our members, I can't tell you why. haha. We ate good food though. We played soccer with the spanish ward at an indoor arena. That was way fun. I was one of 3 white people there, and not many more than that spoke english. haha. I scored the first goal of the day though, so that felt good. It was really fun. The coolest part of our week though, was when our cambodian investigator showed up to church on her own! She told us that she didn't want anyone to pick her up this week, so she was going to borrow her friends car to go to church. And she actually did! That's so cool. I'm excited to see where this goes.
We gotta get going soon, so I'll wrap up. Thanks for the CD's, Grandma! They are awesome. Ok well I'm out of things to say. Oh yeah, the weather here has still been awesome. It's like 70 today! I love it! haha. ok bye! Love you all so very much!!!!

Break-In #2-Check!
Hey there!
This week was sweet. We had lots of really good things happen for us. And one not so great thing. :) So I don't remember the specifics about everything we did but it was good. We were able to meet with almost all of our investigators, which hasn't happened in a really long time. That was awesome. We met with Jolenny, who is the girl with a baptismal date for Christmas, and met with all but one of our other investigators at least once. They are all doing pretty well. We got 2 new investigators this week too, which is always great. One of them is a cambodian lady that we met while tracting about a month ago that told us to come back later. Well, we were finally able to get in to teach her this week. We got there, and she let us in (her husband wasn't super interested) so we (or I, rather :) ) started talking with her about her previous Christian experiences. She got up randomly and came back in the room with 2 big bowls of bahbah, which is cambodian rice soup that is super yummy. I told her that I wanted her to teach me how to cook cambodian food and she said she would. But the visit was great - we talked about the restoration and invited her to church, and guess what? She actually came! Wahoo!!! She really liked it too. I didn't have to translate for her, either cause she knows english pretty well, which is funny cause when we met with her we spoke in Khmer basically the whole time so Elder Pierson had no idea what was going on. haha. She said that she'd be back next week too. She invited us over for Thanksgiving dinner, cambodian style, but we are already booked so we had to push it to Friday. She's super awesome though. Her name is Sophan.
Also at church were 3 of our other investigators. 2 of them participated in the primary program (which was great, as always!) so it's good to see that they are being involved, even if they don't go every week. The one other one that wasn't in the primary program is a friend to one of our members, who just came to church with her. She's awesome Tabatha's friend, Danielle. She is living with Tabatha because Tabatha has such a kind heart and does really nice things like that all the time, like buying AWESOME Christmas gifts for the Elders. So, she invited Danielle to church and she came! We will be over there tonight so we'll have a chance to talk to her about how she enjoyed it.
So that's basically what happened this week. It's not as cool in email form, but when we taught like we did this week, and when people actually come to church like they did, things feel like they are going pretty dang good! It always feels like there's way more to talk about too.
Oh yeah, and there was a little event that helped spice up the week. When we walked out to our car this morning, our back window was smashed in, and the doors were unlocked, and both mine and Elder Dawe's GPS's were stolen. Again. Dang. Sorry Bro. Karr. We had them in the console, so you couldn't see them from outside, but I guess they saw the mark from where you hook it to the window, and figured they would be inside. The robbers were probably ecstatic to see 2 of them in there. Don't really know why we kept both in there though. haha. Oh well. Nothing we can do about it now.
And finally, I just want to let everyone know how cool it is that I'll be the best man for Justin and Gwen's wedding 6 days after I come home! I'm pretty excited for that. Sounds like it's going to be pretty fun. I still think it's weird that he's even engaged. haha. But yeah, that's cool.

Sick...
Well, there is really not much to talk about this week, because we didn't really do much. We had a meeting on tuesday, then Zone Conference on wednesday, then on Thursday I woke up sick, and it knocked me out for 3 days straight. I couldn't do anything. It was really lame. I hate being sick. It was kindof ironic too, cause at our meeting on Wednesday, we had a presentation by our mission doctor about how to prevent getting sick. haha. Our Zone conference was really good though. All of the Sisters gave trainings on how to plan, set goals, and work with the members. It was a bit different to be taught by the Sisters, but good too. The meeting was up in Worcester, MA (pronounced wuster. The rce is silent) and on the way home from the meeting, we went through Kelley Square, which is apparently one of the worst intersections in the US. There are 9 roads that all meet at this place, and there are no stop signs or anything, you just have to butt your way in and hope you don't get hit. That was fun to drive through. haha. But yeah, I was out all day thursday friday and saturday. Sunday I was still feeling pretty gross, but not too bad. We were able to go out and work after church, which turned out to be really good cause we contacted some of the people that we haven't talked to in forever and all of them are still interested so we set up return appointments to continue teaching them. That's honestly all that happened this week. haha. Well, hope you all have a great week! Love y'all!!!!
